The mission of the Occupational Therapy Department is to serve the needs of Kahnawakeron:non by providing quality rehabilitation, preventative care and education to the patients of Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre and the community of Kahnawake incorporating the vision, mission and values of the hospital.
Services Provided
Assessment of patient's house; of physical, cognitive and perceptual abilities; of self-care, domestic and leisure skills.
Education on illness and on ways to adjust it.
Exercises for range of motion, strength, coordination, balance and endurance.
Activities of daily living training; recommendations of splints for upper limbs/technical aids/house adaptations; assistance with referral to driving assessment clinics.
Other Services
Medicare wheelchair/wheelchair positioning assessment clinic and upper limb orthotic clinic.
Clientele Served
KMHC's patients with physical/cognitive disabilities that could be caused by orthopedic, rheumatic, neurological, or aging conditions. Disabled children are served only for house accessibility assessment and for assistance with requests for funding to get technical aids.
